Sam Owen, Elites Singles Partner psychologist, believes "young men nowadays probably also recognize that older women are adept at diligently juggling so many responsibilities (career, children, housekeeping, fitness, finances, socializing), which makes them intriguing and attractive and a more secure option."The dating website analyzed the upper and lower age search limits for more than 450,000 of its members to reveal the age of a man and a woman’s perfect partner.The survey found men aged 20 to 29 prefer older women to younger ones, and women preferred a younger man as they age, according to Your Tango.
Theirs, however, is a real-life love story of an older woman and younger man -- something that is not so uncommon nowadays.A 2003 study by AARP revealed that 34 percent of all women over 40 in the survey were dating younger men, and 35 percent preferred it to dating older men. "Societal attitudes have definitely changed," says Susan Winter, 52, co-author of "Older Women, Younger Men: New Options for Love and Romance" -- and she would know. "But (that kind of discrimination) would not be allowable now." Hollywood in particular has defied the ageism stereotype, with celebrities like Madonna and Demi Moore marrying significantly younger men (a 10- and 15-year age gap, respectively, with director Guy Ritchie and actor Ashton Kutcher), and the public has come to accept it.
Moreover, says Winter, women have experienced a significant financial and status shift over the past half-century.
Meanwhile, online dating sites like Go urge older women who seek younger men to "get what you want." Such pairings can and do work.
Younger men dating older women often have their hands full.
However, the rise of the "older woman-younger man" relationship has loosened this relationship convention and instead celebrates the age-gap romance.
